Sesper (Brazil)
Brazilian artist Alexandre “Sesper” Cruz passed his adolescence absorbed in music and skateboarding, building ramps, making fanzines that documented the Sao Paulo art scene, and recording k-7 compilations. These interests influenced the sticker and paste up poster campaigns he launched around the city in 1999.
Sesper began to create the mixed media artwork he is best known for today in 1994. He uses recycled material such as paper, cardboard and wood as his surface and paints over these with oil pastel and latex, incorporating layer upon layer of texture and color.
In 2007, Sesper launched a handmade, limited edition series of art toys called Sir Sesper Soundsystem, one of the first ever series of art toys made in Brazil. He also designs graphics for bands and skate brands and films the live painting and gallery installations of the artists in his collective, the Famiglia Baglione.
